Talking about Duke, all the humor was pretty tasteless. Duke comes off as a fucking psychopath of the worst degree here. There is an alien rape level, it’s not even funny, it’s fucking horrific. The weird armadillo balls that you need to find in order to open doors seemed like a retarded attempt to try to play like portal too. And this game even tries to go Half Life with the puzzles and scripted scenes. You even have the same 2 weapon restriction, didn’t the past game let you hold a shit ton more? Why did they do this? You get this ‘Duke vision’ shit that’s straight from Chronicles of Riddick: Escape from butcher bay. You got a tutorial that is basically Halo 1’s tutorial of jumping around weaponless for a couple minutes while shit around you blows up, all the while learning the controls. This game feels like 3D Realms kept adding shit they saw from other games throughout the years, without actually building on those mechanics or ideas. I can’t really blame Gearbox because they said when they bought the rights to it that the game was basically done and all they were gonna do was spit shine it. Take your time with it, but not a stupid amount of time (if they can make a fucking badass Halo or CoD game in a year or two, you should have no problem getting the next Duke out in 3 years TOPS) Take the duke world, somebody else’s engine if necessary, make single player more…fun, and vamp up multiplayer. Like it or not, I don’t see this as Duke Nukem’s last hurrah. I kinda agree that if it wasn’t a Duke Nukem game, it would have likely gotten probably 1-3 out of 10’s across the board for reviews. It sucks, as a Duke fan, but on the bright side at least NOW they can put their team to work, making an actual sequel.
